Teach Peace and Poetry

 I write this holding death

In a troubled heart.

I write with the urge

Of every numb lost person.

I write in vain again

For peace, art and poetry.

With no one to appeal to

Like the demigods caught in myths

I look unto this universe

And ask for peace.

Either plastic or ballistics

Will bring us to apocalypse

And we would have remained

Ignorant from history's many lessons.

Teach peace and poetry

To scientists, warlords,

White, bearded politicians

To laborers, protesters, voters

To those being pushed away

And to those pushing them away.

Teach peace and poetry

To this another lost generation

In the shallow hollow pleasures

Of greed and ignorance.

Teach peace and poetry

To those running industries

And systems - climbed atop

Arrogance and conquest.

Never learning from wars -

Their pity and destruction.

Teach peace and poetry

To those who have forgotten their kindness

Their very own being

Those who have jumped onto wagons

Of hate, and the thrill of wars.

All the world's sermonising

Will make us no better.

Hope is but a butterfly

Stuck on the tarmac

Long dead - like us all

Doing nothing until

There's nothing left to do.
